Recently, Category5.tv introduced a new segment on its weekly show called the news room, this had been embraced at first with a few uneasy and mix feelings from the community. However, over time this became on of the most interesting features on the show, it remains tech related in the type of news presented but also brings some real world events into the allready great show. Robbie Ferguson hearing from fans that wanted more in regards to the news decided to launch a new area of Category5.tv last night, while the Category5.tv newsroom is still in its infancy (at least in the form of a separate section of the site) it looks great and us worth mentioning here. This news room serves as a portal between the Show's newsroom and the community, all news articles submitted will show up here even the ones that are not mentioned on air. In addition to the news room Robbie has introduced an audio only podcast of the news room so you can play the news back and here what is going on in the tech world today. While he is still ironing out the bugs such as theme and format in some areas the site is right now very much operational and worth checking out. Please make sure you post your suggestions on his About page for that site and try to keep the comments constructive! No one likes negative criticism, that said constructive criticism is always welcome. Robbie, in the same fashion as he did with the main site has embraced using an Open Source model for his CM. Category5.tv uses Joomla to power the pages and content found there while the newsroom uses WordPress 3.0 which if yo have not used it, is a very cool blogging and general news/content management system. Clicking the picture to the right will pull up a screen shot I took of his page as it looked at 9:30am EST August 14 2010 If you would like to help Contribute to this site ether by writing up articles such as this about the show or helping post the screen caption pages as the images come in please contact me. We are also looking for simple content editors as well (to help keep my spelling and grammar proper as well as everyone else) |

I finaly managed to get the episode Index updated to the latest episode. I am sorry I let it slide so long. If i could figure out how to extrapolate the appropriate information from an RSS feed to auto update the DB I would do it in a second however I am not that skilled with RSS or PHP really (I use Dreamweaver tools to help me do the advance custom php pages on here). If anyone out that can find a way to show me how to insert the new episodes into my DB I would be greatful, I need the following information all of which can be extracted from an RSS feed Episode #: Episode Name: Episode Air Date: as for the URL i can make a small php script that increments the watch url by one number ever time, however should Robbie change his ondemain viewer url then I will need to change it |

Changes:Amazon S3 Integration - We have updated our upload form to now store pictures to an Amazon S3 bucket, this will do three things for this site 1) Increase picture load time, 2) reduce bandwidth loads on the web-server, 3) cut down on actual disk usuage for the hosting account associated with this site. Updated Forum - The forums have been upgraded to a new version adding more stability and better security Other News:The process has started for looking for a new theme that better suits this site, we have not found any yet that seem to work. This brings me to the next part, If you know of any free Joomla themes that would work well to match this sites with category5.tv while maintaining a somewhat different look I would appreciate any ideas. Use the contact form on this site to submit ideas. The things we are looking for are: a theme that is similar (not identical) to the one here www.category5.tv, preferably a matching phpbb theme (or one at least the same colour scheme), two column or one column is fine (prefer 2) and a them that is not real heavy on the images it has. If you want to help out by suggesting a theme please keep those things in mind. A custom logo is needed as well I do not expect anyone to make one but a simple nod in the direction of a good professional looging logo generator would also be appreaciated, I will of course not turn down free logos should you feel compelled to make one. Aside from that not much to report here, stay tuned as we will be making further changes as time progresses. |

Well I am so sorry guys and gals for not working on this site for some time. I had several family members ethier fall sick or die in the last 6 months and so things have been very busy. I am now going to try and ease myself back into the swing of things starting with updating the index list of episodes. I could use a great deal of help on this site if anyone has the time and patience to work with me to get this site up and going I would appreciate any and all help. I also recently moved to a new location so been unpacking as well. Starting first thing Monday May 3rd 2010 I should have the index list 100% up to date and begin working on the other areas of the site in desperate need of updating. In case you currious the areas i need help with are 3 main areas 1) content writter - I need people who are willing to watch the episodes every week and write a short (usually 300 words or so) review on the show to post here as well as reply to comments associated with these reviews via our forums. 2) Screen cap Publishers - These people get put on a group mailing list and recieve an email every time a screencap is submitted. they then log into Joomla and post these captions in a page on the appropriate section of the site as well as making a forum thread associated with each episodes caption page. 3)Lastsly i need someone with a little PHP experience to be able to help me polish up the custom forms i made so that they look a little more professsional. All three of those things are my primary focus at this point and areas i need the most help. All help of course would be voluntary as this site makes no money from visitors. If you enjoy this site and would like to help out finacialy we ask that instead of sending us money you direct your donations to the show, Robbie can use your donations alot more then myself. I for this reason am not accepting donations myself and any i do receive will be forwarded to category5.tv Above this article is a yellow button in the header clicking this takes you to Category5.tv donation page where you can make a donation. As mentioned ( i want to make it 100% clear) all donations should be made to the show itself not me or this site. Robbie is the real expert here he deserves the monitary support for the show. |

Screencap taken by vk7hse From Left to Right: Zeck Ferguson, Christy Burton, Robbie Ferguson, Carrie Webb, Tyler Steingard, Natalia Ferguson, Bekah Ferguson and John. Episode 105 marked two years for Category5.tv and to celebrate, Robbie and crew (see above) threw a special party episode and everyone was invited; including Robbie and Bekah's Two adorable children. It was a fun time and, although no particular topic was set, the show went off with a bang and I think we can all say Category5 is going to be that much better for the next year. Way to go Team! And a big thanks to all the Volunteers in the Category5 Community! I plan to do a big section on this episode but I need captions-- lots of them! So, if you have some, please use the form to send them. If the form reloads and does not show you a confirmation please send a email to screencaps AT category5fansite DOT info . Thanks! |
